Any suggestions about what we can do for our volunteers who have not been able to visit or help out for almost 19months. We do not want to loose all of these wonderful helpers, as we are not allowed visitors into our facility at the moment. How do we show them all that we still think of them as one of our special friends and helpers?

We have an annual luncheon with beautiful placemats, centerpieces and table setting. We have piano music playing for 30 minutes while the volunteers are arriving and having hors d'oeuvres. Then while they eat lunch & dessert we have our board president thank them, our executive director say a few words and the Life Enrichment Director talks about all the different work volunteers have done and our goals for volunteers for the following year. Poems are sometimes read. This year we will do a slide show of our volunteers in action. Each leaves with a small gift of appreciation.

Here in the UK this year our week has been extended to incorporate the Queens 90th birthday. So our Volunteers "week" is 1st to the 12th June ending with our big Street party celebrating her majesties big day. I know our home will be decked in red white and blue that weekend I can assure you!

In Australia go to the following for resources and downloads to help celebrate National Volunteers week from 9 to 15 May for 2016. This is the website: http://www.volunteeringaustralia.org/nvw/ As the theme is "Give happy Live happy" we are going to decorate the dining room in bright colours and balloons, bunting and have a circus theme with a staff member (probably me) dress up in our clown costume or our facility's mascot costume. We have invited the volunteers and I have asked some of the elders to serve on the volunteers during the shared morning tea. We will use the certificates of appreciation that you can download and we used the invitation download too. There are smiley props to download, laminate and use during the event too.
