Socialization with peers is imperative for healthy aging. Unfortunately, our residents sometimes arrive at senior living communities after a series of losses and transitions. Often, their best friend has passed away, moved away, or is otherwise absent from their lives. This can cause feelings of loneliness, sadness, and even anxiety.
In this article we provide some tips for helping residents connect and form new friendships at your community.
At our care home we have 'Getting to know you' session.
Turn to the person on your right, shake their hand, introduce yourself an talk a little about yourself. This has been so lovely t see residents engaging more with each other, especially after a little encouragement.
I will definitely be trying some of your ideas :)
Thank you
