Create a heartfelt holiday keepsake by helping residents craft personalized ornaments that capture cherished memories to share with their loved ones. These ornaments make thoughtful gifts and can become an annual tradition.
Materials:
- Clear plastic ornaments that open at the top
- Paper, cut into strips
- Pens or markers
- Ribbons
- Colorful confetti or paper snowflakes (optional)
- Paint pens for decorating (optional)
Instructions
- Cut paper into small strips, making sure they fit inside the ornament when rolled up.
- Encourage residents to write down something positive from this year on each strip of paper. They could also write a favorite memory or a loving message to their family.
- Roll each strip of paper and carefully place it into the clear ornament.
- Optionally, sprinkle in a small amount of colorful confetti or paper snowflakes.
- Close the ornament securely and tie a ribbon at the top for easy hanging.
- Residents can also personalize the ornament with a festive message or simple design using a paint pen.
These keepsake ornaments can become a cherished family tradition, with each year’s ornament capturing special memories for families to revisit and treasure.

Thank you!
Excellent
Thanks Karen!
Good idea Victoria
This is a great idea that I’m going to try and do with my residents. I was thinking for the residents that are not able to communicate or tell us a good thing that happened this year we could maybe put a photo of them inside instead :)
Thanks so much for your feedback!
What a fab idea for residents to give to loved ones at Christmas a lovely personal touch. I will definitely try this nearer to Christmas thanks golden Carers
I think this is a great way to have personal, meaningful decorations. We may will use this for decorations for our own tree. That way, everyone will have contributed to the decorations.
I like this activity and will surely have our residents make them this Christmas :)
