Hi Everyone, I work in a long-term care facility as an Activities and Volunteer Coordinator. We are in very exciting times and moving to a brand new facility. The facility is much larger and we are consolidating two of our locations to one, which means twice as many residents. Does anyone have any experience with moving facilities and tips on transitioning the residents from a resident life and activities standpoint?
Hi Danica, despite not having experience with relocation, I assume that it is a stressful time. Here are some general recommended tips that may alleviate the stress - Plan ahead and take it easy; add familiar touches to the new area - Remember that being calm and having a positive outlook is contagious - Maintain a high level of communication and support at all times. - Choice; involve clients in decisions to avoid perception of loss of control. Help them sort and organise personal items - Seek help from clients' families for a smooth transfer - Routines should have minimal disturbance during relocation - Choose light, fun activities for the aftermath of the move: singing, ball games, quizzes, and food tasting
