Montessori activities are wonderful tools to use in both increased appetite and assisting in behaviors. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Increased appetite:
Throw apples and cinnamon in a crock pot (or slow cooker) at the beginning of the morning activities, and by lunch, the whole activity room is sure to smell delicious and will no doubt increase their appetite.
Also, try having a food trivia program or discuss the daily menu just before mealtime. This works as a queue that it is almost time to eat, which can work up an appetite for the residents.
You're quite the special angel here to assist everyone. It takes a special kind of person to deal with seniors - they are not given the respect or credit they so deserve to have lasted this long on this earth. To have witnessed such history is amazing. So many are forgotten about and I try everyday to share RAOKs (Random Acts of Kindness) with any person I see that could use it - thank you again for the great ideas which I hope to spread around the area to help make others know how special they are.
Thanks,
Sharron
