I am in UK a small town in the south Christchurch it’s very popular as we are right on the coast with beautiful beaches and a short drive to the New Forest an ancient forest encompassing some very old historic villages. Many people retire here and currently we have over 1000 people who have been diagnosed with altzheimers/dementia/Parkinson’s.
My own partner of 35 years was diagnosed with vascular altzheimers two years ago and my life fell apart I gave up work as I was close to retirement as he could not be left. Following the diagnosis I felt isolated as there appeared to be no help or support and family and friends found it difficult to come to terms with the sudden changes in him.
After 18 months and feeling very alone I decided that I would start my own group and with the knowledge that Golden Carers we’re few clicks away I felt more confident. We have been going for over 6 months and have become a family and as we meet every week we can support each other and not feel alone.
We do crafting quizzes games music and exercise and a lot of my inspiration comes via Golden Carers - we had an official launch in December attended by some funders and our town Mayor As you will see from the photo we are a very happy family
What an inspiration you are Christine! This is a wonderful initiative, you are helping so many! Thank you very much for your kind words of support. All the very best for the year ahead!
What an amazing site with so many activities to stimulate our elderly people and to make them enjoy the togetherness of everything you offer as activities. I am from South Africa, Johannesburg and being part of such a huge "population" of carers having the same Purpose in mind, is a huge priviledge to me! I am the Nursing Manager of a Retirement home and keep on encouraging my residents to participate in this journey made possible by you. Thank you, you are such an inspiration!
