I work on a dementia floor of a nursing home, I will read aloud the old Mother Goose nursery rhymes, many of the folks will recite them with me ! It's awesome seeing and hearing them "remember "....
Some inspectors may see this as childish so I'll make sure you include that the residents get much pleasure from reciting the nursery rhymes You could also tell familiar stories and poems and have them repeat the words to songs or songs titles
Thanks for your suggestions... I try to do "interactive " reading with the folks. It's just amazing how many rhymes they remember. I also had come upon a wealth of information about Mother Goose type rhymes, many thought to be based on actual historical events, people and culture and printed that up as well. Some of the alleged meanings are not childish at all !
That's very interesting Leslie I just don't want a surveyer to miss interpret what you are doing This happened to me and luckily I had documentation to show that the residents really enjoyed this activity and got much from it
You're quite the special angel here to assist everyone. It takes a special kind of person to deal with seniors - they are not given the respect or credit they so deserve to have lasted this long on this earth. To have witnessed such history is amazing. So many are forgotten about and I try everyday to share RAOKs (Random Acts of Kindness) with any person I see that could use it - thank you again for the great ideas which I hope to spread around the area to help make others know how special they are.
