I absolutely love this website and get most of my daily activities from it. Love the monthly diary too. It has so much to offer for different stages of dementia residents. I love the artwork, games, and quizzes which we use every day. People are constantly asking where do I get my ideas. Thank you so much!

Hi Richard
I assume you want me to comment I need to of these
Steps in and observed activity modification
Observe the activity
See the residents response to the activity
Are they able to do the activity
Are they paying attention
Are they engaged in the activity
Are the residents getting along
Are the residents interacting with other residents and staff
When the activity is over do the residents seem happy
Are they talking about the activity after it is over
Are they complaining about the activity
Example of how to modify an activity
If the activity is too difficult for the residents to follow what is going on
Break it down into simpler steps
If the residents can’t see some thing make it bigger
Modified for safety reasons
Residents are eating the supplies
Use different supplies
I am sure you could see what a particular facility does during a fire drill
It depends on the facility
If there is an emergency during the activity
Above all keep the resident safe
Report the incident to the immediate supervisor and wait for instructions
Safety precautions during an activity
Make sure the area is free of clutter
Make sure there is enough space
If serving food follow of the residents diet
Wipe up spills as they occur
Hi Richard there are probably more but that’s all I could think of at the moment
Let me know if you need more detail

Reflection and learning are inseparable in life
Sit beside a resident who is cognitively impaired, watch and listen to them. Try to be in their space. Write about how it felt to not engage with the individual, and just to be present.
Now think of something to do with them that you think will bring them comfort. Engage with the person. Write about the engagement and how it felt. Consider what was surprising about the interaction. What did you learn about yourself from this interaction?
Hi Richard
Was this your assignment
I think you know what you doing
What are your next steps
