Hi!
We have been able to take our residents on outings, however, they are not allowed off the bus. Mostly everyone is happy with getting out of the nursing home to go for a drive and get ice cream. However, I would like to take them to a beach to collect sand/rocks/etc for our beach-themed week coming up. I am wondering if anyone would have any suggestions or ideas on how to involve the residents in doing so without taking them off the bus. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! :)

Hi Megan
We took our residents to the beach
They had a place for us to park
How many staff members or volunteers do you take with you??
You or they could collect some items from the beach and bring them back to the boss and let the residents decide what you should keep and let you should not
Before you go on the trip you can have the residents make a list of things you will need that you know you’ll be able to find at the beach
Here are some ideas for your list

If you take a picture can you share it with us so we can see what you did

Hi Megan, perhaps you could have a staff member go to the beach and gather some shells and pebbles into a couple of boxes to pass around. It would go well with the fresh scent of the ocean. You could do the same with a box of sand, some driftwood, and a container of seaweed, if available. It would stimulate the senses and remind them of their childhood. Hang in there Megan, everything passes, and COVID will be just a memory one day!
