Hi All,

For all the UK Royal Family Lovers .

You will know (and be very excited about if you're anything like me, any excuse for a party :D) that in June 2022 Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, Seventy Years of service.

There are many great plans in the making for the celebrations.

An extended bank holiday has been granted from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.

Communities all over the UK will have their celebratory juices over flowing during this time.

One such age old tradition is the lighting of Beacons, which will illuminate the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.

For the first time, beacons will also be lit in each Capital City of the Commonwealth countries. What an amazing sight it will be.

So I'm asking you all to share your ideas for THE MOST AMAZING time a care home can have, given all our limits with budget, you being the only events organizer in sight when something needs doing and all your usual go to entertainers are already booked out in other community events.( that isn't actually how it is yet but you get the idea) I want something Super Special.

Share away Team GC'S xx

I've been starting to think on what to do for this, any ideas would be great.

What about an outdoor fete/Garden Party, have things the Queen loves ex a Pony, dogs etc

Plant a Rose Garden in honour of our Queen

Our residents will really be looking forward to this so I'd like to plan something special! We often do High Tea for special occasions which our residents love, so we will probably do one for the jubilee. We have lots of bunting which we will put up, but if you don't have any perhaps you could make some with your residents in the run up to the day? I like the sound of the beacons too, I may try to think of a craft activity we could do to make some beacons. Our residents also love testing their minds with a quiz so I will probably organise a special quiz for them based on the Queen's life

I am thinking of making a collage of photos of the Queen during her 70 years reign

Susan avatar

Hi Linda

That sounds like a good idea also

Will certainly celebrate this one with a high tea and plenty of bunting. We will work around any live broadcasts that they have eg Trooping of the Colours which is a favourite every year, with other relevant activities.

we will be hosting a street party outside (weather permitting) for the residents and decorate all the front garden. we are planing on having a fish and chip lunch with ice cream for pudding and you cant forget the music!

I have bought a life size cardboard cutout of the queen and will get the residents to stand beside it, take a photo of them and give them the photo as a 'keep sake'
