Hi everyone, Looking for ideas/suggestions on what you do to acknowledge the passing of a resident - do you put something outside of their room, at the dining table or near the notice boards. Previously we have had a small table that we placed near our notice boards with a stand up cross & flowers on it.. Thanks
We put a nice white bed spread on the bed with an open bible and red rose that lays on the bible it all stays on the bed until the family has cleaned out the room.
Put a picture of a candle on the door so everyone knows of the passing of a resident. Post their picture on a memorial board with the date they were born and the date they past. We had a quilt made that the resident is covered with as they leave the building and all staff are notified the Resident is leaving and line up, bow their heads to say good bye
We place a photo of our deceased resident on a long cabinet, with fresh flowers, artificial white candles some fairy small lights around it (you know the copper ones, the batteries last very long and they are not dangerous) usually I like using white frames , then I find a poem related to our memories of the resident on a white frame as well, that stays up until we have an in-house memorial, let the rest of our residents know the day of the memorial and the time, we gather information about our resident and we honor them and their time with us by getting together on that day with other resident , we would talk about the resident and lots of our clients will have their own input remembering the person that past away, after that we, have either morning or afternoon tea depending on the time with some lovely sweets prepared by our kitchen staff, that gives a bit of closure not only to staff but other residents, and families are always very grateful.

We have a lamp in the foyer and when someone passes we turn it on , it is also good for staff and visitors who first arrive in the facility and see the lamp on and straight away know that someone has passed away.
We post a photo at our front desk with their name, birthdate and date of passing, some pictures of things that mattered to them (animals, instruments, military branches, etc.) and a sentimental quote. We leave it up for about a week,
What a blessing to have found the Golden Carers website, our residents love the activities, particularly fond of visual and musical quizzes. Oh, what fun!! Thanks to all to those at Golden Carers and everyone who contributes to making this website an invaluable tool in ones' toolkit.
