Activities Associate, Memory Care
Hello, I am wondering whether there is an appropriate ratio of activity professional to residents in memory care. I know there are ratios for caregivers (CNA) to resident, but wondered if that exists in the activity world. I feel like a lone wolf, so appreciate learning all I can from others, thanks!!
Hi Wendy The short answer is it depends Are the residents all at the same level of function? Do you have volunteers? Does the staff help you that is Other staff? Do the residents have similar interests? Do any of the residents have problem behaviors? Does the administration limit the number of people you can have? I do not think there’s any hard and fast rule

I once read that it should be an hour per person per week to calculate how many hours per week, you'd need staffing for. Which works out to be 2 full timers in my job, (70 residents) but doesn't compute so well in smaller settings.
I am overwhelmed with the activities on this site, truly amazing. This website has been tremendously amazing and helpful for all my residents on the dementia unit. I have worked in the field of dementia and Alzheimer’s in a long term care home for 30 years. This website is a blessing from above. You are all amazing for the future of care givers and residents.
