CBAS/ADHC Social Stimulation for Advanced Dementia During COVID Shelter In Place

Hi All,

I am an activities coordinator for an CBAS/ADHC in California. I am having trouble finding meaningful and billing appropriate (MediCal) phone contact activities for our more cognitively challenged program participants. We have been able to do weekly, fun, and socially supportive phone calls with the majority of our participants. But our more cognitively challenged people are not getting that social stimulation from us and are relying on just caregivers and family (who are on burnout watch). Any suggestions out there for a socially supportive activity for our more challenged people?

Hi Liliana

This is truly a challenging task because people with late stage dementia and other psychological issues are all different so you have to individualize to make the activity something that they like

As you know in general you do not want to argue with these people

You want to enter their reality

You may want to use therapeutic fiblets
