Hi Fellow activity officers, I have a couple of men who said they are bored & don't want to participate in the everyday activities. Ive offered puzzle books, gardening, painting, cards, chess and many more. They attend the men's shed fortnightly for 90 mins but Im looking for ideas of fulfilling jobs that they can do on a daily basis. Things that some companies pay people to do. One has dementia but is quite mobile and the other has poor vision but good mobility. Im hoping someone might have some ideas. Thanks in advance, Fiona
Hi There, Im wanting to run a armchair travel in February & would like to know if anyone has done this before & had any ideas on crafts to make. I would like the residents to make table decorations and thought I would ask for some ideas. We will be doing flags, wearing sari's, & watching a dvd. TIA Fiona
Hi Jodie, we had a trivia evening for Chinese New Year & it was fantastic. Some dressed up & we had 6 to a table & a volunteer to help with the questions. With 10 question per round with 4 rounds. And bonus rounds which are for fun. U get to win 10 points, it could be a treasure hunt that the volunteers need to find something. We had supper which was fried rice, spring roll & everyone got a fortune cookie. Visit a cheap shop & do a lucky door prize with Chinese items in mind. The residents still talk about it & we had a Halloween trivia night also.
Hi, We have a exercise program where I work for the residents but I would like to buy a dvd for chair exercises for those days that im on holidays or sick. Does anyone know of any good ones & where to buy them from. Cheers
I contacted the local quilting club & asked them what I was wanted to do with our residents & they were only to happy to help. The ladies each donated colourful material that they per cut into hexagons & we joined them like a flower ( a centre & 6 around the centre. This took a few months & they picked it up & joined all the flowers to make a large quilt that we have hanging in our facility. The residents were very proud of being a part of making it.
We made gem scones, scones, egg & bacon little tarts, sausage rolls, cocktail pies with a electric pie maker, pavlovas, & the most popular is home made pasties. Good luck.
Hi Golden Carer friends, I would really like to go to a diversional therapy conference in Adelaide & would like to know if anyone knows when the Adelaide dates are so I can put in for it asap. Thanks
I appreciate the time and effort you put into finding and creating activities for seniors. I especially appreciate the freebies as I am a volunteer which implies I do not receive a paycheck so I really count on the free items your site offers and put them to good use at the PC and Dementia facility I volunteer at.
