We do a beer & bowling activity and it is very successful. We have a bowling set up and use our dining room tables so they don't have to bend so much. We use 2 tables together and usually do out outside in our garden courtyard and there is a bit of dip which makes it easier to knock down the pins also. We have beers, shandies and nibbles served to make it more sociable. One of my residents helps set it up, runs the game and keeps score which he loves, very empowering for them.
I was looking for the Blue Horses painting by German painter and printmaker Franz Marc, colouring activity also his white cat? I would love to have them availble again.
As Lauretta, I am also a RAO and prior AIN. At my facility I am a RAO who has only 10 Dementia residents to look after and I also do some personal care. And I don't mind if a resident needs toileting, feeding or even showering, I did it before gaining my Cert IV in Leisure & Health in the facilty. By helping also builds a good working environment with other care staff and I enjoy the extra time with my residents, I just think of them as extended family.
Once again Golden Carers has come to the rescue. I live in a retirement village and calling on my years as a Diversional Therapist I constantly use the Golden Carers for new ideas to run my group in the village. I especially love the Read Aloud Audience Participation activity and I always pick a very shy resident to take a part. It is amazing how much it brings them out of their shell. The quiz always helps keeps their minds active and gives them such a feeling of self worth when they get a correct answer.
