Can I ask about gloves? I have done some basic cooking and food prep activities, sometimes with gloves and sometimes without. Putting the flimsy rubber gloves on some residents takes such a long time, very very fiddly and they get very frustrated too.
Hi, we have a gentleman in our care home who has Alzeimers, he used to do some carpentry. Any ideas of some meaningful activities/projects he could do to rekindle his love of working with wood. It would need to be something he could do fairly independently under the occasional watch of carers or myself.
Hello Jeanette Thank you very much for your comments and advice, very useful. Your lillypilly site also looks great. You are most fortunate to have volunteers. I have only been in this job for 6 months and there were no volunteers in place when I started and nothing has changed. Its an area I desperately need to address. I would quite like to have some 'specialist' volunteers on board for doing art activities. Hopefully I will think up some ways to attract people to helping out. best wishes, Tina
Hi, as an activity coordinator my home requires me to display a weekly program/schedule of activities and events. Its supposed to look like there is something on morning and afternoon. However I am having trouble working out how this fits in with working in a 'person centred way'. Surely the person centred approach means that there are likely to be several different activities going on, some one to one, some small group, some larger. To some extent those activities may be quite spontaneous and 'in the moment'.. difficult to predict on a Sunday evening when preparing a schedule. I think the concept of a timetable/schedule is for promoting the home to visitors.. perhaps. The carers always ask me 'what's on today?' and I feel I have to state an activity, time and place. Any advice or comments greatly appreciated.
Hi All, I work at a care home where we are aiming wherever possible to do person centred activities. We have a man who often talks about how he was evacuated in the war. Any ideas for activities which would be suitable? Thanks
I’m loving your website, it’s been a great help to me over the last six months since I started my new role. Lots of hints and tips, great activities, and it’s great that we can contribute too. It’s fantastic to have such a universal source of information, how we have a common goal and language despite our worldwide locations. Thank you!
