I have heard that we cannot give soft cheeses to those in a Nursing Home. Is this right? These are all the yummy cheeses. Is there something else we can use.?
Contact your nearest RSL they have CD's with everything on there to help with a program. Get them to come in their uniforms or any residents to wear uniforms and metals. Invite family and friends. Provide morning tea. Get the local Pastor or minister to provide the talk. Ask residents to be part of the program. Make flower reefs with the residents as a craft the week before and invite residents to lay them under the flag at the appropriate time. Make small rosemary pins for everyone that attends to wear. Take lots of photos.
I also help out for lunch, using the time as part of my 1:1 like Sharon and agree with her absolutely. Have even had a few volunteers orientated to feed as they enjoy this time, knowing it helps the staff and it is such a good time to talk to the resident. A lot of volunteers have chosen not to feed.
I have invited all the married couples and provided lunch in a separate area with smaller tables, table cloths, bought red roses and had them on the table,(wives took them when they left) music playing and a volunteer and myself to help serve. Served wine in special glasses (only plastic) with red serviettes. It was very special and they really loved it.
Thank you for your great ideas, so useful and encouraging. This keeps me wanting to do better and not stuck trying just to think of things. You are a blessing to me and the residents including the volunteers! :)

As I'm new at coordinating activities for seniors with dementia, you have given a lot of ideas that I am using and plan on using. Golden Carers is one of its kind. Thank you
