Good morning, Looking for recomendations on where to purchase a silicon life like baby doll for some of our residents. A nurse brought her doll in to show the residents and the reaction from a couple of ladies was amazing, the baby doll was weighted to a realistic weight for a baby. I have done doll therapy (Child representaion therapy) before at a previous employment and it was successful but they looked like dolls so this time I really would like a doll that looks real. Thanks Donna
Hi everyone, Does anyone know the name of any exercise DVD's for seniors, mainly wheelchair and princess chair bound. (chair exercises) I have the golden carers chair exercises and another seated DVD (walking up the mountain) need something to get them motivated. Thanks Donna
Yesterday we used the whiteboard, didn't get a great reception to start with. I wrote my name (Donna) down and asked what the first thing starting with D that came into their mind and when we completed my name I read it out as a little story. The residents and volunteers and a family member all lauged and then thay all wanted to see what story would come out of there names. Thankyou for the great idea it was a such an interactive activity. Donna
Hi Rachel and Solange, I agree with both of you it is very disappointing that facilities put untrained staff in the lifestyle positions. I feel it devalues the role of the Diversional Therapist and Lifestyle staff this is one of the reasons I have just returned after a 2 1/2 year hiatus from my beloved Diversional Therapy which I am very passionate about. There are courses out there that will help these staff understand the roll of a DT, they shouldn't be made to do shifts in the Lifestyle department especially if they don't like being there. I believe that the residents pickup on the staff vibe and don't enjoy being in the activity. Staff that work in nursing and food services have to be trained in that role and do ongoing training so why do they think that staff don't need training in Diversional Therapy. I have just started where they haven't had a DT for 3 months and the staff have told me that the can see the residents are much happier doing something again. Thanks Donna
