fishing game- pole with string attached and magnet on the end, items with magnetic strips hooked to them to hook their catch . We had some guessing games where we filled up containers and they had to guess the number inside, face painting- liquid soap and paint- wipes off easily due to soap base.
Will try to think of some more we did at our carnival.
You might try overnight oatmeal in the crockpot. We measure out all the ingredients and place in covered containers. The nursing staff on the night shift pour them into the Crock Pot and set it on low. The residents awaken in the morning to the smell of the oatmeal with cinnamon and apples, or you may use other fruits, nuts or spices of your choice. It seems to stimulate their appetites for breakfast. We use the bead machine also and It makes it seem more homelike to me, when mothers and grandmothers would bake and prepare those wonderful homemade comfort foods.
We made these for our annual "Mothers Day Tea" The ladies are able to invite two quests each for the Tea. Each place setting had a cup and saucer arrangement with a thank you for attending the event that the residents and their guests were able to take with them as a keepsake. We also used all shapes and sizes of Tea Pots and filled with flowers like the cups and they were used as centerpieces on the tables.
Are you in the UK? I'm in the USA and the law says that those providing Activities have to take a class to become Certified. There are a lot of books that can be purchased that have guidelines, ideas, policies/procedures. I don't have any links that I can give you but you might try creativeforecasting.com and also medpass.com The second has many mannuals for all departments even though it's called Medpass.
Lavender is a recommended color for Alzheimer's/dementia because its said to be calming. A seafoam green also is recommended. Stay away from Reds, Oranges, bright and very dark. These colors are said to cause agitation. I will attempt to find and post a link I used when redecorating our bath houses, that we converted to a Spa for our ladies and a nautical theme for our men.
I love rain sticks! I have many at home that I purchased for my granddaughter when she was born. They have such a soothing sound. We have 3 levels of care and I am going to have my Independent and assisted residents make these for our low functioning residents. Will incorporate into our 1:1's
i LOVE THIS POEM. I'M GOING TO PRINT AND POST FOR ALL MY RESIDENTS AND STAFF. WHEN THEY GET TO FEELING DOWN OR STRESSED, ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS READ THIS AND EVERYTHING WE DO WILL FALL INTO PLACE FOR THOSE WHO PROVIDE CARE AND LOVE AND THOSE WHO RECEIVE CARE AND LOVE.
I really appreciate this website and this is my second year using it. I am a Activity Director in mental health. We have residents from all ages at our facility so all the resources made available here can be utilized in so many ways. I am so thankful for this site and will continue using the resources for my residents
