I work in a hospital and have a big team of volunteers. I have been asked to pause all volunteers until maybe June. Gulp!
Basically I will be solo covering 3 wards (84 patients). What can I do that is time efficient AND effective and will reach the most patients. Baring in mind most will be in their hospital bed.
It's Nutrition & Hydration Week in the UK from 15th March. Can anyone suggest any fun activities to boost hydration. Was thinking mocktail making, guess the juice etc. Ideally ideas that I can take round on a trolley.
I am also an activity co-ord in a hospital, elderly care wards. Around half our patients have dementia. I haven't been able to find another AC is a similar setting. Would be interesting to talk about what we do. Please email me if you'd like - [email protected].
Does anyone else work in a hospital? I work in a large acute hospital in London. Most patients are here for a short time (days, weeks) with some here for months awaiting a care home. I thought it may be nice if anyone else works in a hospital with patients in awaiting a placement to start a pen pal service? It may just be a couple of patients at a time who would be interested. I wondered if it would be something we could continue when the patient goes to the care home. This would be a source of continuity particuarly for patients without loved ones.
I work as a coordinator on an Older Persons Unit (three inpatient wards) in a hospital. I look after 26 volunteers most with no prior experience of volunteering or working with patients with dementia. I work very closely with the volunteers and provide tips/advice etc. In our anonymous surveys sent out they are all happy with the role and feel valued which is great. However, many would like further training on how to support patients with dementia.
Does anyone have any resources that you can share? Videos/websites/ways of running the training?
Thank you for the resources provided on Golden Carers. I found them immensely valuable, relevant and worthwhile. Educational and updated information provided. Great activity ideas and suggestions. The activities presented are appropriate and can be adapted to different client groups in any English speaking country. It is easy to read and understand the instructions and explanations.
