Hi Nikki
Congratulations on your new role. Whilst I don't work as a Lifestyle Coordinator, I have worked with aged care clients for many years. I have personally never found a better website than Golden Carers - so you absolutely have your choice of activities here! Getting ideas for activities from residents, organise a calendar of events and above all have as much fun as the residents do!!

Social & Cultural Profile Form

In Australia we have about 9 diverse needs groups included in our Aged Care Act. I think the tool here does not consider that many older people and people per se belong to diverse groups e.g. LGBTIQA+, Care Leavers, Veterans, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, Indigenous and Stolen Generations. I think Social and Cultural Profiles needs to consider much more than language spoken, religious and spiritual beliefs.

The attached Diversity identification Questionnaire is the one we use within our aged care facility. It was designed by an Advisory Group (Trauma) and Flinders University Clinical Psychologist (Trauma and Dementia).

Hi Val
Likewise - I had been browsing the site for a long time. I still find it incredulous that this site exists. I know how hard it must be for our Lifestyle teams to keep coming up with ideas and activities and to now have found this site - WOW. I really do think it says a lot about the immense value of community collaboration - because this site is about that! - I think!

One of the best sites I have ever come across that supports clients in a person centred and meaningful way. The resources are so user-friendly and there is always something new to learn. Thank you!

How to Create an About ME Profile

The one-page-profile can be developed as an activity for older people or individually. It can be included on the front page of a client's care plan, in a resident's room (if in a residential aged care facility) or wherever a person wants to make it available to inform their care and support.

I love this site and the ideas above are amazing. I agree that asking people individually what they want and having smaller groups are important. Lively music in the background is also very important and a great motivator. Picking a client/resident that can and wants to help and is social by nature and a good organiser is also strategic so you do not have to do everything on your own. Volunteers are amazing!
