I like this idea of various tools, and could add to this with items from our home toolbox to add to the program.
In past years, I created a program of "hammers" . Where they originated from, and several types. I placed them on my activity cart, and displayed to each of the Residents. Everything from Fire hammers (break into buildings on fire) ; Railroad hammers; to small Tin - Bashing hammers. It sparked a great amount of discussion and reminisce about former jobs. And my manager was impressed with ingenuity and creativity.
Our local food bank donates non alcohol beer of variety of types. Our local A & W donated small root beer steins x 12.. We are planning a party - and will share how it goes
Our community church group comes in once a week, and shares stories from the Christian Bible. As most of our population are Christians, this works well. They provide a non-denominational "story" of events in the Bible that most people know or grew up with. Our Christian facilitators also provide history of ancient times and modern day for the big screen. A well received and attended program by our Residents.

Last year we introduced equine therapy(outdoors), which was wonderful This year, we plan 2 spring visits, and 2 fall visits with the horses to our village.
As you mention; Robotic Animal Therapy is beneficial for late stages of Alzheimer's, in addition to Palliating Residents. I plan to print off both articles and share with our care staff as part of benefits for Emotional Support in Therapeutic Recreation.
Our village provides an animal policy and medical form to all dog and cat visits , and residents.
See the Golden Carers 'Winter Wonderland Tea Party". You may not be able to do all that decorating as you are on your own, but some hot chocolate with candy canes, or hot apple juice (cider) with cinnamon sticks' along with some party chips (melt popcorn twists or melt cheezies) for all diet types. Put on the Christmas Carols on the TV or music box and have fun with it! You've got this!
I love your idea! in our village care home, we combine Recreation and Rehab. At St Patrick's Day, and on Christmas Eve, I created something similar to your idea - thanks for sharing!
We created and laminated 40 small Leprechauns, and then later, Elves. and place at various locations around our facility (open concept, not separate units). As the lead therapist, I ask the staff to get involved and pair up with a Resident for a half hour of fun. The team that collects the most leprechauns/elves wins a prize. Photos are taken for our company newsletter.
We encourage using the physical abilities: the Residents who are able to walk using walker, able to ambulate, walk, and able to self propel use their wheelchairs. They are teamed-up with staff member(s) in the search.
It is a very successful activity and enjoyment for all, and gets the staff engaged in Recreation and Rehabilitation with our Residents.
We have been a member of Golden Carers for the past 5 years and honestly, it makes our lives here both easier and more interesting!!! The hours it saves us when planning activities for our residents result in delivering quality activities. Our residents love the word searches and crosswords and the armchair travels have brought happy memories of holidays. Thank you for all you do!
